Parashat Balak – A Warning for Our Days
In this week’s parasha, we see something that’s not just ancient — it’s happening right before our eyes. Nations that were once enemies, like Mo’av and Midyan, come together with one goal: to curse Israel.
But the prophet they hire, Bil‛am, can only speak what YHVH puts in his mouth.
Still, the danger doesn’t end with words. When the enemy can’t curse you, he’ll try to corrupt you. That’s what Bil‛am does — he teaches Balak how to bring sin into the camp. Seduction. Idolatry. Compromise.
But the Spirit of YHVH raises up a priest — Pinchas — one man who burns with holy zeal and stands for righteousness.
